2012 Benefit Dinner and Auction

Saturday, April 28, 2012

SAVE THE DATE

Support the Columbia Humane Society! Our Annual Happy Tails to You Benefit Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 28, 2012, is at the Saint Helens Elks Lodge. On this night, we invite you to relax, mingle, and enjoy their dinner, and then bid on silent and live auction prizes of all kinds. We will show a brief presentation of our 2011 accomplishments, in hopes to inspire support for the Columbia Humane Society’s commitment to shelter animals this year.

Last year we housed 75 cats, 344 kittens from 78 litters, 136 dogs, and 60 puppies. We found forever homes for over 550 animals! We rely heavily on the income from fundraisers and the generosity of the community to fund the cost to operate the shelter, and house, feed, and care for these animals.

At the Columbia Humane Society we are incredibly grateful to serve Columbia County and beyond. Though economic times are tough, the spirit of this county is stronger than ever, and it shines through in the form of donations, event attendance, and volunteers that keep us going throughout the year. Without them, hundreds of local animals would be homeless, hungry, and searching for that extraordinary bond that exists between their human companions.

Our goal for the evening is to raise $12,000 for shelter operations and medical bills. Dinner tickets will go on sale after March 19, 2012. They will be $30 each until April 23rd, then $35 after and at the door. Don’t miss this annual event to support our animal shelter in Saint Helens, Oregon (just north of Portland).

Home 4 the Holidays 2011

ends December 31, 2011

Columbia Humane Society has joined the 2011 Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign to find homes for the homeless dogs and cats living in our shelter. We have beautiful, amazing animals waiting for families to love them. If you have a big heart and believe in second chances, stop by the shelter and check out our animals. Homeless animals appreciate every morsel of food, every soft blanket, every toy, and every gesture of love. There is an acknowledged bond between humans and the creatures who love them; the expression of that bond may be greatest among those offering forever homes to shelter animals.

Help our animal friends find new forever homes!

All of our “Home 4 the Holidays” events have been very successful! On December 10th, Brusky the hound was adopted, Archie the little black and brown pup was adopted, Quincy the Chihuahua mix was adopted. Tommy the orange tabby kitty was adopted, Magnum the little boy, black kitty went on a home visit and Kiwi the mom kitty went on a home visit.
The PetSmart Event on December 17th also went very well. We adopted out Sassy (the tortie kitty). David Leadham (Santa) and Carolene took 30 photos. They had lots of fun and made $150 for CHS. Sandie Wiggs and her son helped with the cats and dogs all day. PetSmart Charities gave us donations of dog and cat food and treats galore!

Iams Home 4 the Holidays
MOST HEARTWARMING STORY CONTEST

Every week during the 2011 Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign (Oct. 1, 2011 – Jan. 3, 2012), participating animal organizations are encouraged to enter heartwarming adoption success stories. Please send us your story about finding your new best friend at CHS, and we will submit it for you. After the campaign ends on Jan. 3, 2012, the weekly winning stories will be compiled into a pool and voted on by you, your fans, and the public. The story with the most votes will win a $500 donation for their animal organization and will be announced on Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Blog in February 2012.

Thank you!

BIG donation for the Columbia Humane Society

January 28, 2011

PRESS RELEASE - JANUARY 28, 2011

Local celebrity plays and wins BIG for the Columbia Humane Society!
Sara Jean Underwood, 2007 Playboy Playmate of the Year, Model and Actress, recently competed in the Pokerstars.net Million Dollars Challenge and won $20,000! At an interview before the game Sara was asked what charity she was playing for and she said, "The Columbia Humane Society, which is the humane society in Scappoose [Saint Helens], Oregon where I grew up. It‘s really small and where we got all of our pets, so I just wanted to give back to the community."
This is one of the largest donations the animal shelter has received since the new building was donated by the Holsheimer Family in 1993. Sara Jean Underwood and her love for the animals, including those of CHS, combined with the Pokerstars.net charity event has really given us a boost up. Receiving this substantial donation from such a well know person is truly inspirational to our shelter. When the money was deposited in our account at St. Helens Community Credit Union from pokerstars.net, our thoughts of anticipation led to gratitude. We are working towards hosting an event in Sara‘s honor when her busy schedule allows.
Our Board of Directors, Fundraising Committee, and Employees would like to extend our thanks to Sara for her poker skills and choosing CHS as her charity. We also want to take this opportunity to thank all our donors, members, and volunteers. Because of their dedication, the animals of Columbia Humane Society have a winning future!
