Education

The Columbia Humane Society provides humane education materials to the public that will aid pet owners to care for, train and control their animals. We offer educational aides to schools that will help to instill in the student a feeling of respect and compassion for all animals.

PetVideo.com has launched over 200 training videos that are easy, quick to watch, and fun to do with your pet. New and seasoned pet-owners can work on one behavior, skill, or fun trick at a time and enjoy watching their relationship with their pet blossom. Visit PetVideo.com.

In addition, the Humane Society of the United States has launched their "Pets for Life" program. The goal: to curtail the numbers of animals relinquished to shelters – or otherwise given up on – because of breaks in the human-animal bond.
Behavior problems top the list of reasons for pet relinquishment. Thousands of other pets are given up because of lifestyle changes, such as the birth of a child, or human health issues, such as family members with allergies or HIV/AIDS. Still others are given up because their caregivers couldn't find pet-friendly rental housing, or because their owners simply had unrealistic expectations about what it meant to care for a pet.
Check out their extensive collection of information sheets that can help you meet the many challenges of pet ownership at www.petsforlife.org.
